We tried some snorkeling out in front of our accommodations south of town, but there’s not much to see until you’re at the reef and it’s a 1km swim, in seas that aren’t exactly calm. We took a tour instead, which involved quite a push out to the reef north of town and about 1 1/2 hours in the water. The seas were still higher than I cared for out here, this led to me being quite sea sick. I noticed everyone else popping Dramamine before the boat left and as soon as the boat stopped moving near the reef, it hit me quick, so I got in the water ASAP which alleviated the issue, but not quite enough. It’s nice to have a life jacket on when you start puking while swimming in the ocean.
But there was much more to see out on the reef and it was certainly worth the experience.
