We rented a car for the day and made the hour or so drive north along the coast to Todos Santos. This is a quaint old town, in a bit of disrepair after last fall’s hurricane, but with a nice cultural feel without being gringo-centric. Seemingly popular among ex-pats, I can see the attraction.
We found surfing 10 minutes south of town on Playa Los Cerritos. This was a much more quaint environment to relax in and do some peaceful time in the water without too many people around. The waves were certainly more difficult to catch here, but that was also influenced from renting smaller boards then we had been using the previous day. There was a completely sandy bottom here, but we were warned of potential rip tides.
They offer lessons here for $60 and an all day board rental is $20.
We had an amazing lunch in Todos Santos at Mi Pueblito, just take their recommendations on your meal, trust me.
While you need a car to get out here, it would certainly be worth looking into lodging options at either Todos Santos or right on the beach in Los Cerritos.
